This cover is part of a larger project I did for my good friend Leah Marlene. She asked me to create covers for two singles "Spacesuit" and "Today" to accompany the art for her album "The Space Between." Leah is an incredible musician and an absolute joy to work with! We had a very straightforward concept for this cover. Leah wanted me to illustrate a space helmet and incorporate some collage elements into the design. I work in collage a lot, so this was especially fun for me!

First, I started with the space helmet outline. I did all of the drawing in Procreate on my iPad.

Then, I drew squiggles around the shape and separated the two sections into positive and negative space.

After that, I created a clipping mask and adjusted the colors for better contrast.

I then added a textured background.

Finally, I added text! Leah's songs share her struggles in a very personal way and we wanted to incorporate that into the artwork. So, Leah and I have been using her handwriting throughout this project in order to reflect the heartfelt sentiment behind the album.

I also created a Spotify Canvas for this song using Adobe After Effects. I'm not experienced enough yet to include a whole process for the animation, but here's the video! It shows up in the background when you play "Spacesuit" on Spotify.
